We imported "Marley" upon recommendation of a good friend and veteran breed expert, Alan Mitchell (Hoplite). She comes from some of the top producing, most highly regarded Staffords in the UK.
Unfortunately, at 2 1/2 years old Marley developed pyometria during the very early stages of pregnancy, and was spayed in order to save her life.
A few of her conformation accomplishments include:
6 times 1st place in class @ specialty shows under breed specialists
3 times RWB @ specialty shows
(Including 2 @ the 2001 National Specialty weekend)
Marley defeated more Staffords with over 10 reserve wins during her short show career than many champions do in a lifetime of showing in the US.
Alas, "close only counts in horseshoes." Marley was never made a champion.
Marley once tracked her way through 4 miles of unfamiliar wilderness to the secluded resort where I work when she decided she had enough of our backcountry hike in the 19 degree cold. I looked for her for 5 hours knowing that she'd die if she were left to the elements that night. When I gave up searching by foot I hiked back to the car with plans of traveling the deserted Forest Service Roads. When I got there, she was waiting outside my office door.
